Have you ever wondered after slipping into a hot tub, perhaps on holiday or after a workout at the gym, how great it would be to have one at home? However we often assume anyone installing a hot tub into their bathroom or sticking one on their back porch is simply being over the top and indulgent.

A quick look at ancient history will reveal the therapeutic and medicinal benefits of hot baths from as far back as the ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks. It's a medical fact that what happens when your body is immersed in the hot water is that your blood vessels dilate, which improves the health of your heart and your blood to circulate.

There is nothing like hydrotherapy in a hot tub if you have any sort of chronic pain, arthritis, or rheumatism. Instead of taking pain killers, you can float in hot water where the heat makes collagen tissue more malleable and eases movement, reducing the symptoms of these conditions.

Yet even those without pain can benefit stress wise. So many of our illnesses today are because our immune systems are not functioning right. Stress lowers our immune system and hot tubs help us rid our bodies of stress. Those who take the time for a 15 minute relaxing soak at the end of the day notice an improvement in their overall health not to mention enjoying a better night's sleep which is also beneficial to wellbeing.

Just for general detox, a hot bath is wonderful. The body rides itself of toxins and flushes out any rubbish that can lead to illnesses. It's also an alternative place to spend quality time at the end of the day with a partner or family member. So often we sit in front of the computer or the TV, and we actually wind ourselves up instead of down. It's hard to argue when you're feeling so relaxed!
