“Kapal ini terbuat dari serat karbon, dengan kecepatan 35 knot dan dipersenjatai peluru kendali yang memiliki jarak tembak 120 kilometer,” kata Wakil Menteri Pertahanan Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin usai meninjau industri kapal dalam negeri PT Lundin Industry Invest di Banyuwangi, Jawa Timur, Selasa.


Satu unit kapal "Trimaran" dihargai sekitar Rp114 miliar yang diambil dari APBN 2011.
"Jika proyek pengadaan ini berhasil maka ini merupakan sejarah bagi Indonesia karena telah berhasil membuat kapal perang dengan komposit serat karbon, dan ini akan dipatenkan dan diekspor ke luar negeri," kata Sjafrie.

Direktur PT Lundin Industry Invest, John Lundin, mengatakan pihaknya telah melakukan ujicoba terhadap kapal dengan panjang sekitar 62,52meter tersebut. "Ini merupakan kapal `Trimaran` pertama yang dibuat dari serat karbon. Amerika pernah membuat kapal sejenis dengan panjang 120 meter namun dari bahan alumunium atau baja.
 
 
 
Komposit serat karbon juga telah digunakan untuk pembuatan pesawat airbus Boeing-777 dan mobil formula 1. Ketahanannya 20 kali lebih kuat dibandingkan baja. Kapal cepat berpeluru kendali itu memiliki panjang keseluruhan 62,53 meter, panjang "water line", 50,77 meter panjang "water draft" 1,17 meter, bobot mati 53,1 GT, kecepatan maksimum 30 knot, kecepatan jelajah 16 knot, dengan mesin utama 4X marine engines MAN nominal 1.800 PK.
